HERPES VIRUS
What are some common signs of equine herpes virus?
If your horse is infected, you may notice coughing, nasal discharge and fever. There’s a good chance for recovery if your horse is only mildly affected. If the Herpes virus has led to neurological problems, it may take weeks or months to fully recover. Some horses may be affected for the rest of their lives. Another possible result of Herpes virus infection is abortion in late pregnancy. Sometimes many mares on a farm will abort in rapid succession. This is known as an ‘abortion storm’.
