TETANUS
Can my horse die from tetanus?
Unfortunately, about 80% of infected horses die from tetanus. The bacteria produce a powerful nerve toxin, causing many muscles of the body to spasm uncontrollably. The first sign of a problem may be the way your horse moves and stands. When diagnosed early, vets may treat your horse with large doses of antibiotics and administer the tetanus antitoxin injection. Tetanus can be avoided with vaccination.
